Rural crime prevention advice. |
||
Adur & Worthing PoliceGood Morning Resident, With warmer weather bringing more people outdoors and increased activity in rural areas, residents, farmers and rural businesses are encouraged to take practical steps to help prevent theft and suspicious activity. Keep quads, ATVs, machinery and tools secured wherever possible, ideally inside locked buildings and out of sight. Use good quality locks, chains, ground anchors, wheel clamps and immobilisers to improve security. Consider installing lighting, alarms, CCTV and clear warning signage around yards, barns and outbuildings. Mark property and keep a record of serial numbers, photographs and identifying features. Regularly check gates, doors, fences and boundaries for signs of damage or tampering. Be alert to unfamiliar vehicles or people seen near farms, yards, outbuildings or rural lanes. Speak with neighbours and share information regularly. Please report any suspicious activity, even if it seems minor at the time. Information such as vehicle details, times, locations, direction of travel and descriptions can all help build a wider intelligence picture to ensure the most effective deployment of officers to tackle crime and protect the community. If you see a crime in progress, or there is an immediate risk to safety, call 999 immediately. For suspicious activity, concerns, or information after the event, please report it online or by calling 101. More advice can be found on our website, link in first comment.
